The Beginning

The Beginning

As an elementary school-er at Friends School in Detroit I was introduced to Sadako and her 1000 paper cranes. Through Sadako I learned about the larger tragedy that unfolded at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. That experience stuck with me all through my schooling experience. It has inspired me to study Japanese history.

In 2014 I was given the opportunity to travel to Japan with my class. With the help of my community I raised the funds to deliver 1000 paper cranes to Hiroshima on a class trip to Japan. I wouldent be where I was with out my community.

Here I am accepting The Ferndale Good Neighbor Award for the "Makin' it Crane" campaign. Winning the award was extremely unexpected and I am very grateful to my community.

In the summer of 2014 I was able to deliver all 1000 paper cranes to Hiroshima in the name of my community.

I'm still Detroit

We had great fun and learned a lot, but I never forgot that I'm still just a girl from Detroit. Hopefully, with help, I will finally be able to realize my childhood goal of studying Japanese history and becoming a historian.
